ABOUT SOME OF THE ARTISTS
GRINSPOON
One of the major rock acts in the country, Grinspoon burst onto the Australian music scene in 1995 when they won the Triple J Unearthed competition. Thirteen years, five albums, four EPs and recent nationwide controversy behind them, the band are going from strength to strength, with their most recent album, the 5th, Alibis and Other Lies doing the business. Led by dynamic frontman Phil Jamieson, the band have built a huge following through years of touring and festival appearances and their sound has evolved from heavy rock and grunge to string-laden ballads and balls-out rock done in the finest Australian tradition.

The so-called ‘next big thing’ in Australian rock is oft-touted, but rarely delivered. Not in this case. Trial Kennedy’s debut album New Manic Art has the critics raving. The incendiary and intuitive guitar work of Stacey Gray employs off-kilter lead-lines, jazzy inversions and tasteful arpeggios, creating a virtual soundscape of textured guitar, and his inspired interplay with the rock solid rhythm section of bassist Aaron Malcolmson and drummer Shaun Gionis is the key to the band’s originality.
But there is no disputing that vocalist Tim Morrison is the star of the show - he is one of the most exciting new voices in rock and roll - gritty power uncanny phrasing and a stratospheric range - moving seamlessly from a delicate falsetto to a full-tilt rock scream, and everything in between. The band’s profile has really started to take off - and they‘ve been doing the hard yards on the road. There’s no doubt Trial Kennedy will be an important band on the local landscape in years to come.

Fast establishing themselves as a 'must see' live band, Mammal have taken just 7 months to explode onto the Australian rock scene. They incorporate all the elements of funk, rock & punk that add up to a seething, sexy, unforgettable concert experience. After playing just four gigs in Melbourne they were invited to join Sydney hero's Cog on their recent East Coast tour.
The year has also seen the band record and release a successful EP, play lots of high profile shows (supporting Avenged Sevenfold, Sebastian Bach, Karnivool and Grinspoon to name just a few) as well as a massive tour of Australia with Cog. Written in the rock 'n' roll stars Mammal is musical energy that had to happen. Devastating live, focused lyrically& with a sound that will have you dancing as you raise your fist, Mammal has arrived.
